Hey y’all, it’s Mo. Our 6-Month Protective Style Journey is still alive and kicking, and I’m sure at this point you may be finding it difficult to come up with styles that are cute and protective.

We never want to leave a curl friend behind, so here are a few of my style that have been in the rotation for the past 3 years or so. Some have made comebacks, others just aren’t doing it for me too much anymore. Anyway, I hope you are inspired to keep moving forward on your journey, we’re working toward healthier hair!!!!!

As you can see, I am a fan of protective styling and Mz. Jackson and I have definitely been on an adventure over the past 6 years or so. I transitioned for 3 years with sew-ins, I am a DIE HARD bob-wearing gal.  I’m still a fan of having my hair cornrowed down while still being versatile with my hairstyles. (although I haven’t worn straight hair in about 3 years, might have to revive that look soon….)

So, what’s your hair story? Let me see your pics!!

The Difference Between Beauty and #BYOB

How is #BYOB different from beauty?

The folks at the Oxford Dictionary define beauty like this:

A combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.

BYOB-logo

We, the folks at The Confetti Collective, define BYOB like this:

The unique combination of awesomeness that was sculpted by the Creator and pleases the sight AND soul.

Best accentuated and displayed while wearing a #BYOB top, which was inspired by the courage, confidence and credence of loving oneself authentically.

And there you have it 😉

Natural Hair || Five Ways to Boost Your Hair Conditioner

The conditioning process is important in your cleansing regimen because it functions as the “closer” for your hair cuticle…it helps smooth hair strands to prevent moisture loss.

So, with conditioner being SO important what can you do if your product just isn’t giving you the results you want? With a few simple additions you can elevate your conditioner game.

Here are five ways to boost your hair conditioner:

1. Add Oil – Olive, coconut or castor oil are great choices to add for increased slip, which helps your detangling, and provides added moisture.

2. Add Honey – ggrreeatttt option for a moisture boost

3. Add Butter – particularly shea or cocoa butter can be mixed into your regular conditioner to thicken it and boost the moisturizing properties.

4. Add an Egg – mix in one egg for a protein boost to strengthen your strands

5. Add Heat – natural hair thrives in moist, damp environments and you can recreate this every time you condition your hair by steaming, sitting under a dryer with a plastic cap or wrapping a warm towel around your head. The heat ensures the best penetration of moisture and conditioning benefits.

We’re all about helping you get the most out of your natural hair products, and even if your most recent product purchase isn’t performing the way you thought it would, these easy additions might do the trick.

Everything You Need to Know to Avoid Heat Damage

Heat damage is a naturalista’s worst enemy….

The truth is, heat styling is a prominent part of natural hair styling, the key is to protect your hair and use your heat tools wisely to avoid wrecking your hair. Heat protection actually begins well before heat is actually applied to the hair.

everything-avoid-heat-damage-inline

Shampoo and condition beforehand. This may go without saying, but we’re saying it anyway. Natural hair should be clean before applying heat, otherwise every bit of leftover product, dirt, or whatever it currently in the hair will essentially be baked into the hair.

Protecting #naturalhair from heat begins before the dryer or iron are turned on. Click To Tweet

Deep condition beforehand. Applying heat to natural hair evaporates the moisture out of the hair, so it’s important to boost moisture levels to avoid hair sizzle.

Increase protein levels beforehand. When hair doesn’t have a strong protein structure applying heat will cause it to permanently lose it’s texture/curl pattern.

Use a heat protectant. Heat styling products work by forming a protective coating on the hair that lessens the chances of the hair being burned (note: they are not a force field!!). Natural products like grapeseed oil has a high smoke point, making it a good candidate for a heat protectant.

Even with these products heat tools should still be used responsibly, as healthy hair burns at 451.4 degrees Fahrenheit (233 Celsius).

Control tool temperature. If you have the option, choose heat tools with numbered temp selections instead of a high/low switch, all low settings are not created equal.

Avoid overdrying followed by flat ironing (or curling). If you have to blow dry your hair before using the flat iron or curling iron, allow your hair to partially air dry first OR blow dry until your hair is about 80% dry and allow to air dry. Doubling up on the use of heat tools increases your risk of heat damage.

Do you have a curlfriend that could use these tips for avoiding heat damage? Be a friend and share this post with them!

Fashion Friday || “Build Your Own” BYOB

Hey folks, Mo here. Happy #FashionFriday!!!

A few weeks ago I got a crazy idea while sick in bed  (most of my ideas are far out there..). I wanted to allow shoppers to come to the website and create the BYOB top they want. We get feedback from customers about shirt colors and styles and lip colors, but I wanted the create the ability to customize a BYOB top to the point that we see more variety in the market.

Fast forward a month, I’m excited to announce that we now have an option to customize a white tank or short sleeve top with the lippie design of your choice! This is just the beginning of my vision coming to fruition, we’re working on adding more short colors and more text color options as well for the BYOB design.

As a small business I count this as a MAJOR milestone, this type of service is typically reserved for large corporations with a large staff and large budgets. (we are/have none of the above..)

You can get the deets in the BYOB 2.0 Collection here, you can choose your size (small -2X), lippie color and select short sleeve or tank.

Custom-lippie-options

Several of the lippie designs have never been released before today! Thank you for your support and patience as we revamp, expand and grow, everything we do is aimed at making your experience with The Confetti Collective a more pleasant (albeit unique) one.

I can’t wait to see the Collectivists rocking their custom lippie tops, be sure to tag us on Facebook, IG or Twitter when you post your pic.

Be Exclusively Inclusive!
