We’ve featured several small businesses on the blog, it was time you knew the complete Confetti Collective story.
After being stationed at Fort Benning for almost 5 years Uncle Sam told my family that it was time to go. Go to Arizona.
The move to Sierra Vista, AZ was pretty uneventful, after about 10 moves over the past 14 years I’d mastered the art of packing up my life into boxes before the movers actually arrived. Since I’d started my natural hair journey in 2008 and I couldn’t find any information online for resources where we were going, I hit up the World Natural Hair Show to snag as many deals as I could.
I decided it was time to make things official and share the story for real – and make a small upgrade to the website in the process. We recently published a new video for the About Us page where I made things official and shared The Confetti Collective story. You can check it out here:
We’re sliding into 4 years since the cross-country move that sparked this brand. I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish and I’m excited for what’s to come. There have been valleys that I’ve had to learn from, and peaks where we’ve celebrated. Whether you’re an OG reader or just got on board yesterday, I’m grateful to have you here.
I’m looking forward to more confetti on this journey, I hope you are as well.
“Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.” – James Cash Penney, Founder of JCPenney
It’s time to grow, and we want you on this ride with us. We’ve seen BYOB spread across the country over the past 2 years, and one of our tops even made it to Ghana, Africa! The launch of the Princess BYOB tee gave every mother, big sister, aunt, grandmother cousin the opportunity to share the message of loving oneself with the “Queens in Training” in their lives.
We’re not done; we want to continue spreading confidence across the country, and we want to work with you.
You can now bring one (or both) of our collections to your local boutique or women’s clothing store through our wholesale program!

Micellar water is is made up of micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules) in soft water. The micelles attract the dirt and oil from your skin, cleansing without overdrying. With this one product you can remove makeup, cleanse and tone your skin, and if you don’t want to use artificial ingredients, Naturally Me and You is the place to go for an all-natural option.
Micellar water is pretty much magical; but it won’t remove waterproof or heavy makeup. My suggestion is to use your own gentle cleaner first, then follow with your micellar water to get the toning effects.
Microblading is the new hotness. This semipermanent brow sculpting is the answer to every girl with over plucked, sparse, uneven brows dreams. Less permanent than a tattoo but good for up to 2 years of brow appointments, microblading is taking the beauty world by storm.
You don’t have to worry about your brows washing off at the pool, and it actually looks like actual hairs (a special pen-knife is used to “draw” feather strokes in the brow area). You can wave goodbye to your brow powder and/or pencil.
The key is finding the right person to do your microblading – this process calls for formal education and art; make sure that the person you choose to do your microblading is an artist that has received some type of training, complete with a certificate to prove it.
Recently we were granted exclusive access to record the process with Arizona’s premier brow and makeup artist, Acacia B. Brows.

We talk about embracing your natural beauty every day – and we believe that you deserve to look as beautiful as you feel…and if you can do that for 1-2 years at a time, that counts as a win in this book :-).
Don’t miss our second installment on microblading, find out the details about the healing process in this blog post.
The second half of 2016 is upon us, and if you still haven’t gotten around to those resolutions you set in January, there’s still time to make some adjustments. This is the year of evolution, remember?
That means it’s not over for you. The process of setting resolutions can sometimes feel like a compulsion rather than a “create your best life” process. Instead of beating yourself up about those half-hearted resolutions that didn’t follow through on, why not create a few “themes” for your life to help you have an awesome rest of this year?
In keeping with our primary areas of focus of beauty, balance and taking care of business, we want to help you with a few lifestyle themes to help you end 2016 on a high note:
Accept compliments with nothing more than ‘Thank you”.
Give a compliment to someone you don’t know.
Use sunscreen EVERY day.
Begin each day with mindfulness.
Do squats while you’re brushing your teeth. (TRUST, it works…)
Eat one piece of fresh produce every day.
Enjoy more family time.
TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS
Schedule weekly activities once a week.
Hire an assistant to help you for 5 hours a week.
Read something business-related at least 30 minutes a day.
None of these are difficult to incorporate, and once they’ve become a habit for you it’s easy to step things up. The key here is to make gradual improvements now so by the end of 2016 you’re not frustrated at all that you didn’t accomplish.
If you’re thinking about starting an online store there are some things you need to know…especially if you want to sell physical products on your website.
The Confetti Collective online store officially opened in November 2013 and we’ve only sold physical products, soooo we want to give you a little peek into the real life of an online retailer. Here’s what nobody wants you to know:
Security, security, security – do shoppers feel secure enough to enter their payment information on your website? Do you the appropriate certificates and security settings? Do you offer legitimate payment options? If not, shoppers will be moving on…..
Inventory, inventory, inventory – considering you sell/plan to sell physical products, inventory can be your BFF or your worst nightmare. You MUST make sure your website is up to date so you don’t end up with unhappy customers when you have to tell them you don’t have the product they just ordered.
You gotta be creative in order to get noticed – opening a brick & mortar store comes with a certain level of “automatic” awareness because people are naturally curious and chances are they’ll stop to check out the newest shop. The online space is much more crowded, so you’ll have to be intentional about building anticipation of your virtual grand opening.
Your website needs to be ON POINT – most of your customers won’t interact with you directly; your website could be the only contact they’ll have with your brand. Therefore, it’s important to make sure you have photos of your products, show how they’re used/worn and if possible, include testimonials from past customers.
Forecasting is difficult – no online retailer wants to have “sold out” on their website for too long. It’s one thing to be in demand, but you don’t want customers to lose interest if they keep coming back and the product they want isn’t available.
If you’re considering opening your own online store, this post isn’t to dissuade you. If anything, we want you to be armed with information so you’ll know EXACTLY what you’re getting into.
In the midst of all of that we’re a business…and we love showcasing other businesses (particularly those that are owned by women) to create opportunities for all of us to grow.
In this #mothersday edition blog post we’re giving you a few great ideas to celebrate that special woman in your life, the one that birthed you, raised you, taught you how to be the person you are today, all from woman-owned businesses.
Mother’s Day is the perfect occasion to purposefully shop with women-owned businesses, not only does Mom get what she deserves but you’d be supporting a woman, a mother, a leader of our next generation…and the for that, you’ll make your mother proud. 🙂
Are you tired of hearing me talk about evolution yet?? LOL, I hope not because I believe that if you’re not growing you’re dying…and I still have some life to live, okay?
If you’ve been following along since the tail end of last you’ve seen some changes…we introduced our new tagline, I did my own big chop and now this….
The logo that you’ve come to know and love for its message of self-acceptance and loving who you are has changed:
The BYOB Cube tee is an evolution…I know you love the dolman tops and the EmpowHER Collection helps you feel like you can slay the whole entire world with your natural hair and unique fierceness. The cube design doesn’t take anything away from what we currently offer, if anything it’s an option for the easy-breezy, laid back chick in you that likes to cut up her t-shirts (like me) but still wants to represent her unique beauty.
This shirt gives you that.
Missy fit and a longer length than the “traditional” t-shirt, this couldn’t have come to the store at a better time.
This is available now in sizes S – 2X, get yours here.
There’s still so much going on behind the scenes these days, I hope you stick around to see what else is in store. If you have a suggestion/question/comment, shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org, I’d love to hear from you.
Here’s to more beauty, more balance and taking care of our business,
