To the average non-natural social media user, we curly heads speak(write) in a different language. If you are new to the club, welcome! Check out the most-used lingo and acronyms below, and don’t keep it to yourself!

Each one teach one!

  • ACV : Apple Cider Vinegar; used as a clarifier to remove product buildup from hair and scalp
  • APL: Arm Pit Length
  • ASL: Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (foaming agent in shampoo, known to strip the hair and dry the scalp)
  • AVJ: Aloe Vera Juice
  • AVG: Aloe Vera Gel
  • BC: Big Chop
  • BSS: Beauty Supply Store
  • CGM: Curly Girl Method (no cones or sulfates)
  • Cones: Silicones
  • DC: Deep Conditioner/Conditioning
  • EL: Ear Length
  • MBL: Mid Back Length
  • BSL: Bra Strap Length
  • JBCO: Jamaican Black Castor Oil
  • PJ: Product Junkie (see Instagram post)
  • Poo:  shampoo
  • Pre-Poo : Pre-shampoo moisture treatment
  • SLS: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (foaming agent in shampoo, known to strip the hair and dry the scalp)
  • NL: Neck Length
  • EVCO: Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
  • TWA: Teeny Weeny Afro
  • PS: Protective Style
  • LoD: Line of Demarcation
  • LOC: Liquid, Oil, Cream
  • EO: Essential Oil
  • #DH: (insert number of days) Day Hair (2nd Day Hair, 4th Day Hair….)
